Game Story
by Mike Gastonguay (sportsWIRE)
It's a hands down fact.
Boston College is the most dominant school in Hockey East.
Jerry York's boys have been the number one team in the confrence since
we began this season's coverage. They've held on to that mark all through
the regular season keeping a sizeable distance from the other top schools
in the confrence standings. They were responsible for ending BU's six year
Bean Pot reign. They easily captured the regular season title.
They've done it all!!
And they now have another trophy to add to the shelf.
Providence followed the tourney's theme to the T.
Start strong, End Weak.
In all three tournament games, the team who scored first lost.
Providence scored first. They lost.
But there will be a tommorow for the Friars. They were selected for
the NCAA Tournament and they will face off against Wisconsin in the west
regional.
As for the champs, the Hockey East title has it's privilages. They claimed
a first round bye in the east regionals and they will face off against
the winner of the Maine/Minnesota game in the tournament first round.
As far as next Hockey East season, there should be a definate "shift
of power" in the conference as many of UNH's and BC's seniors will move
on in the world of hockey. This should make for a very intresting future
when the puck drops again this fall. |
